Lubbock Independent School District hosted teachers, Lubbock businesses and members of the community to a forum Wednesday where experts discussed the ever-changing face of education. Around 200 people showed up for the presentations.
International education expert Doctor Bill Daggett said technology is evolving faster than schools can keep up with, so right now students are not prepared for this changing world that they will soon have to live and work in.
“The problem is the world outside of school, pushed by technology and globalization, is changing four to five times faster than the rate of change inside of schools,” Daggett said. “So what we have today is an interesting problem. The kids re the best educated ever, they’ve got more standards to take and more tests to take, but they’re the worse off.”
Daggett said to be ready for college and a career, students need to have skills that will prepare them to be financially independent in a technology and information based society.
